Subject choices for KS4 - Years 10/11 - 2022-2024
Year 9 Options: 2022-2024
Dear parents
I am sorry we are not able to get together in person to support your children with their Key Stage 4 (years 10 and 11) Option Choices. However, I am confident that the content of this webpage will be worthy substitute this year.
Below you will find:
- An introductory video from myself, outlining the options process
- A downloadable copy of the Options Booklet
- Links to presentations by the Heads of each subject
The introductory and subject videos are best watched alongside a copy (electronic or printed) of the Options Booklet.
English, Mathematics and Science are all ‘core’ subjects. They are subjects that all students will continue to study in years 10 and 11. This being the case, parents/students often spend little time considering how they courses are structured and what students will be expected to study. The benefit of this year’s online offer is that you all have the opportunity to watch the core subject videos and gain a good understanding of how these courses are structured in years 10 and 11.
Below the core subjects you will find the option subjects. These have been arranged in the same order as they appear in the Options Booklet. Clicking on each link will take you to a short presentation about the subject, its content and assessment methodology.
Options Forms
On the 18th February (the day after this webpage goes live) you will be sent a copy of the options booklet by ParentMail and your son/daughter will have been given a paper copy and the option form to complete. After carefully considering the choice of subjects on offer and following the instructions set out in the options booklet, the form will need to be completed.
As outlined in my video and in the booklet the deadline for the return of forms is 4th March. There is nothing to be gained by returning the form early, but any late returns will not be considered until all ‘on time’ forms have been processed.
Your child’s options form should be returned to their form tutor
Remember, if you have any questions please contact the school using the appropriate email, as outlined in the Options Booklet.
Regards

Core Curriculum subject information - English, Mathematics, Science, PE, and PSHE
All students must study certain subjects within the Core Curriculum. The level of the courses that the students follow will be dependent on their performance in the different subjects.
English | Mathematics | Science |
PSHE and Citizenship is the programme of learning through which our young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. PSHE & Citizenship develops the qualities and attributes students need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. Our approach to PSHE & Citizenship here at JHCS, is through six stand-alone days.
