Welcome from Head Boy and Head Girl

Welcome to John Hanson Community School.

In our speeches to be nominated as your head boy and girl, we said that we want school life to be as enjoyable and happy as it possibly can be for everyone. That continues to be our aim.

We want to make real changes to the school, to make it even better.

One of our suggestions is to create a sense of belonging for the students.   We will do this by making the prefects more visible to younger students.  This can be done at break, lunch and assemblies.

Positive mental health is another area that we want to promote across the school; through: assemblies, tutor time and more.

We hope that you take every opportunity over your time here.  Whether that be extracurricular clubs such as sports like netball or football, or one of a variety of different enrichment clubs we have on offer such as gardening club, Spanish, school choir, engineering or coding.

Or it may be school trips.  Day trips like Gunwharf, Chessington and Thorpe Park as reward trips, or theatre productions and Swanage, Porchester Castle at GCSE.  There are so many opportunities available. 

Our residential trips are even more inspiring:

• Year 7 Osmington Bay
• Year 8 Paris
• Year 9 Normandy
• KS4 Water sports and New York
• Biannual Ski trip
• As well as a Kenyan expedition!

Each of these activities are things that we feel make your time at school so memorable and are an important part of growing up.  We don’t just want you to leave John Hanson academically successful, we want you to have confidence, know yourself, and be prepared for life after school.
