Exam Results 2018
Another year of outstanding results!
Over two thirds of all grades achieved were at grade 4+
I would like to offer congratulations to all Year 11 students on behalf of myself, and all the staff at John Hanson for another year of outstanding examination results.
Following new qualifications, with more challenging content and a different assessment regime in English and Maths last year, this year brought a further challenge to the vast majority of subjects.
64% of students gained a grade 4 or above in English and Maths. This is a significant achievement when you take in to consideration that this year students have sat qualifications (graded from 9-1), with more challenging content and a different assessment system.
76% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English, while 71% achieved this threshold in Maths. In English, 10 students managed to achieve the new Grade 9, which is above the old standard of an A*.
Also, 70% of all students achieved 2 Science GCSE grades at grade 4+ or above.
23 students achieved 3 or more 7-9/A*/A grades, with 176 of these top grade being achieved in total.
Other notable subject achievements:
100% grade 4+/C+ in Biology, Textiles and BTec Sport
Examination results however, are about individuals and the life chances their achievements offer to them. That is why I could not be more proud of the vast array of individual success that this year’s results have brought about.
I would have liked to mention every student and shared their success, but there are too many to mention by name. However, the following have achieved exceptional outcomes: James Adcock, Salina Bura, Paul Gatehouse, Abigail Woolaston, Jessica Porter, Julia Pinnock, Beth Rosier, Emma Ward, Jay Rowland-Harrison and Jack Pitt. Between them, they have gained 87 GCSE grades at 7/A or higher, including 25 grade 9s, 23 grade 8s and 6 A*s!
Russell Stevens (Headteacher) said: I am sure that armed with some amazing results John Hanson students will progress with confidence on to the next step in their educational journey. All of us at John Hanson wish them well.
