National Lockdown

National Lockdown – move to remote learning for all with immediate effect

Dear parents/carers

You will undoubtedly be aware of the government announcement this evening regarding the country going in to a national lockdown.

The section relating to schools reads as follows:

Going to school, college and university

Colleges, primary (reception onwards) and secondary schools will remain open for vulnerable children and the children of critical workers. All other children will learn remotely until February half term. In the circumstances, we do not think it is possible for all exams in the summer to go ahead as planned. We will accordingly be working with Ofqual to consult rapidly to put in place alternative arrangements that will allow students to progress fairly.

In regard to schools and specifically for your child/children at John Hanson this means that from tomorrow – Tuesday 5th January 2021:

  • All learning will be via our remote curriculum until February Half-Term. As with the expectations today, all students are expected to engage fully with online learning. Staff will support if students experience any technical and/or learning difficulties. Staff will also chase up any students who chose not to engage.
  • Key Worker school and provision for other vulnerable students will continue. If, following  tonight’s announcement, you now need a place, or you no longer need a place or have a question please let us know ASAP by emailing Matt Allott (Assistant Headteacher) – matt.allott@jhanson.hants.sch.uk.

We are currently seeking clarity in regard to what is happening with regard to Year 11 students who should have been taking the ‘real’ exams for Imedia and Child Development next week. We will let relevant parents and students know as soon as we have more information.

As during the previous lockdown, I will endeavour to keep you as informed as possible as often as possible.

Thank you for what I know will be your ongoing support of your children and the school in this difficult time.

 Regards

 Russell Stevens
